As a studio potter and ceramic artist I am continually exploring the relationships between function, form, and surface to keep my pieces fresh and my time in my studio challenging. I hope each piece will reveal something curious about itself with every use and add pause to our routine lives. I draw inspiration from a variety of sources: my education in textile design, traditional Japanese folk pottery and textiles, and Abstract Expressionist painting. I make each piece with the intention that it be used regularly and strongly feel that a broken pot has fulfilled its role better than one which has never been used.
Ralph Nuara began making pottery while attending Rhode Island School of Design where he received a BFA in Textiles in 2004. He continued his pottery practice while working in New York, NY as a designer and buyer in the home furnishings industry. Born in Brooklyn, NY he currently resides in Minneapolis, MN. He has moved about studying, working, and making art in IL, MA, ME, MN, NY, and RI.
